Yes it’s that time of year again when everyone is thinking about taxes.  Last years taxes.  What you should be planning for is this years tax savings.  You need to know what will save you the most money, how to keep proper records and if it’s all legal.  Who has time to do all that research?

So this is the first year we have all three of our kids in college at the same time.  Our college phase started three years ago when our daughter started.  One story my husband and I both had fun sharing with her was how much money our text books cost back in the day and how we got nothing back when we resold them to the campus book store.  We soon found out that some things haden’t changed after all these years.

When one year later our oldest son went off to college we found out that his college that the best system I have ever heard of.  They issue the students all their books for FREE.  They are checked out like a library book for the entire semester.  Wow, what a great concept.  By the way the school is University of  Wisconsin Stevens Point.  After two years of getting a break on his books he transfered over to UW Milwaukee and we are back to paying outragous prices for books.  Child number 3 our newest college student is attending close to home and will still live here so his costs are the lowest untill it comes to books, external hard drive and software.

 So I went on line and did some research.  I found www.ecampus.com and we started looking up their books.  Looks like we will be able to save a lot of money over the campus book stores.

So there’s a new Kindle in the family and it’s the big daddy, Kindle DX. 

As you can see above the screen is much larger so that means less page turning. The DX screen is 9.7″ diagonal E Ink and can also be view in landscape mode.   It holds 3,500 books and also holds pdf’s.  The battery life is 4 days with wireless on and two weeks with wireless off. 

While I know the cost of this new gadget,  at almost $500.00 is expensive and not for everyone.  It can save you money if you purchase a lot of reading material.  It will also save you a lot of shelf space.  Kindle versions of books and newspaper do cost less than their paper copies, not to mention all the trees you’ll be saving.

I think that all college text books should be offered in Kindle format.  A college student could be ahead the very first semester cost-wise and just think how light their backpacks would be.

I was just on a live call last night with Ron Mueller. He gave the background on why everyone should have a home business especially people that also have a traditional JOB. It pays to ASK

I started my family November Birthday and Christmas shopping tonight since I had a bunch of coupons.  Last I went to Barnes & Noble for my FREE cup of Cappuccino, I had Pumpkin Spice Yum! I had one 15% off coupon from last week and I printed two more to have on hand.  I found three books, two were gifts and I just had to have the other, for a business reference and tax right off.  I ask at the counter If there was any way I could use three coupons and he said “if you have three items” Bingo!  I was able to use my B&N discount card for 10% off each book and then another 15% off with the coupons.  I saved a total of $16.44 and I also got my Free Cappuccino and a night out of the house.

I also did some online shopping before I left home. Ebates offers 2% cash back from NewEgg and my son wanted an $89 super dooper gaming mouse.  NewEgg had it on sale for 15.00 off and then the company has a rebate for another $15.00 off, perfect timing.  I put it on my Discover for another 5% cash back and it was FREE shipping.

Last I also shopped Best Buy online through my BigCrumbs site they pay 1.5% cash back.  I got the new Flip Mino YouTube camcorder for $20.00 off and a few other items. By going to the store and picking them up I saved over 10.00 in shipping and handling charges and once again Discover because it pays me to use it.  By doing the online with store pickup you can park in a special up close parking spot, go uop to the counter and everything is ready and waiting for you.  It prevents impluse purchasing and it’s quick in and out.  Plus I also earn cash back with my BB rewards Zone card.
