I love books, I love learning and I believe that in order to be more successful in life we need to learn lessons from great mentors that live successful lives. One of my favorite mentors is the late Jim Rohn.

Two of the books I already had read, The Twelve pillars and Jim Rohn’s book of quotes so I have two gifts to pass along to friends. I was surprised to learn Chris Widener did a sequel to The twelve Pillars called Above All Else and I’ve just started on that book which is included in the package.

Welcome July

Wow!  Half the year is over already and I still have so much I want to do. It seems like only yesterday I was messing with all the tax papers to send to the accountant.  Looking back I thought I would have made more progress than I have. 

When my friend cross country asked if I would like to start an accountability group I said sure. Can two people be a group?  OK maybe we are an accountability pair. Any how she is by far the leader, she knows how to get things done so I should learn a lot.  And if she wants me to kick her in the butt sometimes who am I not to help a friend out.

So we started with goal setting.  I chose headings of: Health, Relationships, Finance, Business and Life.  Then I did Long Term Goals: July, 1 Year, 2 Year and 5 Year.  My husband should be happy, I have him fully retired in 5 years.  That would be 10 years early of the customary 65 retirement age.  Now a days 65 is young with the lost of so manys retirement savings, us included. In 5 years all three kids should be out of college and on their own. Another happy occasion to look forward to, Oh I forgot about wedding expenses. In 5 years I plan to have more than enough money coming in to cover all our needs.

My friend gave me an article to read to get the ball rolling and it had some very good points in it.  The article was written by Dr. John C. Maxwell. One statement that really hit home was and I quote “You can’t achieve everything.  You have to decide what is most important and focus on that.” 

I like to think that I have focus, it’s just in wide-screen.  I think of it as looking at the big picture. I tend to jump from one shinny item to the next. I love having choices and being able to choose them all, one at a time. I do believe that they are all leading to the same single goal  or focus of making me money. I think of them as my education, to get me one step closer to my goal.  I think I believe if I ever found that one special, super, fantastic thing that brought in all the money I ever needed I would stick with it and only it.  Until that time I’ll continue to try many options and build Multiple streams of income. 

Here’s my first assignment for the challenge.  I never seem to have any trouble speaking untill I’m infront of a camera. The winner for the video challenge will get a 42 inch tv from Russell.  Make sure you watch till to the very end to see why I want that tv.

 I love learning and I’m always searching for more information. I just finished listening to Brian Tracy’s 21 Success Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires. He gave out lots of great information and I took several pages of notes. 

One of my favorites was secret number 7.  It really hit home with me. Success Secret #7 Of Self-Made Millionaires is… Dedicate yourself to life long learning. He compares the mind to a muscle.  It will only develop by use. By working the mind it will work better. Great leaders are great learners. Continuous Learning is the key to the 21st century.

He suggests that you

1. Read 30-60 minutes each day. Read things that can help you improve at work.  Since the average adult reads less than   1 book a year, reading only 30-60 minutes a day can give you an incredible edge on your competition.  

2. Listen to audio’s in your car while you’re driving.  Turn your car into a learning machine, a university on wheels.

3. Take every course and seminar that will help you be better at your job.

I have been doing these things most of my life. Brian knows how busy we all are and has really made it easy for us.  He has just started a new company where he brings the best of the best together to record their lessons on videos, audio’s and in ebooks.  They are all placed on the Internet with access 24/7 for a small monthly fee.

June 14th afternoon

Well the rest of the family headed to Miller Park in Milwaukee to see the Brewers game so I have been home alone all day.  Traveling to Milwaukee took some time this morning checking what roads were open.  I planned a route throughout Oshkosh since to of the interstates are still closed due to flooding.  They made it safe and sound.

With no one home I thought it would be the perfect time to try some of the things I have on my To DO List like, make a video and learn to use Camtasia.  I started with the camcorder since I knew how to use it already.  After charging the batteries and finding some blank tape I got to work.  That went well until It came time to upload it to my computer.  The cord I bought years ago and never used is a IEEE 1394.  The tiny end fits into the camcorder but I haven’t found anything in the house that the other end fits into.  The cord said it was to transfer video to the computer.  We have 4 computers in this house and none have a hole like that.  Best Buy .com parts has one and the shipping was more than the cable.  None of the stores near by have one so I will wait.

I went and lifted the mic. from my sons room and got to work on camtasia.  After several false starts and one complete recording with no sound I got it right.   Then I had to sign up on Youtube and learn how to do that too.  I got it uploaded and am waiting for it to show up.

June 15th morning I woke up Sunday Father’s Day and found my husband and boys all home sleeping.  Turns out Milwaukee was housing 15,000 Minnesota fans in all the hotels and they had to drive all the way back home.  I just checked and my video still didn’t show up because it’s in the wrong format so I keep working with it.  I’m taking notes so I can do it right without any problems next time.

Some of you may know that I love books and I love learning new things.  That’s why I joined BookWise last year.  May’s BookWise Book was The One Minute Millionaire by Mark Victor Hansen and Robert G. Allen. All month long these two authors are teaching their book to a group of us. This is a very unique book or rather two books in one.  One the left side pages they offer the left brain learners, the “logical” , “engineer” types a step by step program to follow.  The right hand purple outlined pages are for the right brain learners, the “visual”, “artists” types with a fictional story to read. Read it all one side at a time or read it like a regular book.

I very seldom read “story” type books but being a right brain learner I started with the right side of the book. I looked forward to settling in bed every night to caught up on how Michelle was doing on each day of her journey. I really enjoyed the story and it kept me very interested.

 My first mentoring call was last week after I had finished the right side.  It was interesting listening to Bob talk about how the book came about. How the story was put together and about the the rising butterfly on the edge of the pages. It’s a very unique book!

A few nights ago I started on the left side of the book. Now I don’t know which I’m enjoying more. The left side has me jotting down ideas and notes.  I have post it notes marking all the things I want to remember. It also gives you exercises to do so it’s more interactive.  I’ll be busy today writing down my goals and looking for a thick rubberband  and taking time out to close my eyes and dream more.

My next call is tonight with Mark since Bob is in China.  We got word that he was not near the earth quake.

Last night I read something that I really thought was so wonderful.  It’s from page 38, The Seventh AHA: Words Transform.  These words were written by Rolling Thunder an American Indian Medicine Man.

“People have to be responsible for their thoughts, so they have to learn to control them. It may not be easy, but it can be done.  First of all, if we don’t want to think certain things we don’t say them.  We don’t have to eat everything we see, and we don’t have to say everything we think. So we begin by watching our words and speaking with good purpose only.”
